Work Eligibility for International Students
Part-Time Work Permission: If you are an international student, you are allowed to work part-time (20 hours a week) if your study permit includes the condition or a remark allowing you to work as advised by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
Social Insurance Number (SIN)
Required for Employment
If you plan on working, you will need a Social Insurance Number (SIN) from Service Canada.
Requirements for SIN:
- Valid passport
- Study permit showing you are allowed to work in Canada
- The condition or remark allowing you to work must be on your study permit
You must bring these documents to Service Canada to get a SIN.

Study Permit Changes (November 8, 2024)
New Process for Study Permit Holders (Starting November 8, 2024): You must be enrolled in the designated learning institution (DLI) named on your study permit. This means you can no longer change DLIs by letting us know through your online account. To change DLIs, you need to apply for a new study permit.

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)
Work in Canada After Graduation
You may be eligible for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) if you graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) and want to stay in Canada temporarily to work.
Important: Graduation from a DLI doesn't automatically make you eligible for a PGWP. Check the DLI list to find out which schools have eligible programs.

Work Restrictions and Guidelines
During Studies:
